The side panel

The side panel next to the budget explains the numbers in the grid. With no line selected it covers the whole period. Click a line and it switches to that line.

  • On a wide screen, the panel is always shown to the right of the grid.
  • On a narrower screen, click Summary at the top of the budget. The panel slides in from the right.

The panel starts on Period overview, with the dates of the period you’re viewing. To see one line:

  1. Click the line’s name in the grid. On a narrow screen, the panel opens with the line’s details.
  2. To go back to the overview, click the line again, click the X (Close details) at the top of the panel, or press Esc.

Every section folds away with a click on its title. The panel remembers which sections you folded, in this browser.

Line details also start with the line’s Available amount in large type. If the line’s goal needs money, a note below it says how much, for example “Need $150.00 this month”, with “Assign this amount here to stay on track.”

How the period’s Available amount is made up: Carried over from the last period, plus Assigned, plus Activity, equals Available. In the overview it adds up every line. For a line, it’s that line alone.

See How Available is worked out.

A summary of every goal in the period, shown when at least one line has a goal.

  • Period targets: what all your goals call for in this period.
  • Still needed: what they still ask for after what you’ve assigned.
  • A badge says how many goals still need money (“X to fund”), or All funded.
  • Below, every goal that still needs money is listed with its amount. Click one to open that line’s details.

What’s still coming in the period, from today until the period ends:

  • Recurring payments, such as subscriptions and bills, that are paid from one of the budget’s accounts, or that have no account but whose category is in one of your lines.
  • Planned transactions on the budget’s accounts. See Planned transactions.

The section shows the date of the next one and how many there are, totals for Outflows and Inflows, and the list with each item’s date. A repeat icon marks a recurring payment. In line details, it only lists what falls into that line’s categories.

Past periods don’t show this section, and neither does a line with nothing scheduled.

One chart over the last 6 periods, up to the one you’re viewing. Each period has a wide pale column for what was Assigned and a narrower bar inside it for what was Spent. All periods share one scale, so a period with a bigger budget draws a taller column. When spending leaves a line with a negative Available, that part of the bar is red and counts as Over. Money carried over from earlier periods covers spending too, so a bar can rise above its column without turning red.

Hover a period to see its assigned, spent and over amounts.

Under the chart you’ll see the viewed period’s spending out of what was assigned, with the share used, and the share used across up to 5 earlier periods, for example “avg 92% used”.

Shown for the current period only. It compares two bars:

  • Spent: how much of the money you had this period is gone. That’s spending measured against the carried-over money plus Assigned. It turns red past 100%.
  • Period elapsed: how much of the period has passed. Today counts as passed.

If Spent runs well ahead of Period elapsed, you’re spending faster than the period is going. Below the bars you’ll see “X of Y” and how many days are left, for example “9d left”.

In line details, this section shows the line’s goal, or No goal set with a Create goal button.

With a goal, you’ll see:

  • the goal and how often it repeats,
  • buttons to snooze the goal for this period, Edit goal and Delete goal,
  • a progress bar with “X of Y (Z%)”, the status, and how much is still to go,
  • Budget X, when the goal needs money,
  • Funding plan, for Yearly and By date goals: how much to assign in each period until the due date, and what’s left after each one.

See Goals.
